En Clínica del Cerebro contamos con la Neurometría; la ciencia que mide la organización de la actividad eléctrica cerebral, y nos permite distinguir; entre lo normal, y la enfermedad. Es utilizada en cientos de hospitales, laboratorios y científicos alrededor del mundo. Se sabe que ciertas frecuencias cerebrales se asocian a ciertos problemas psicológicos, psiquiátricos y neurológicos.
De acuerdo a E. Roy John el pionero en este campo, Neurometría es:  "un método de electroencefalografía (EEG) cuantitativo que proporciona un patrón de ondas preciso, reproducible, que se desvía de la media normal. Este análisis de computadora hace posible detectar y cuantificar la organización cerebral anormal y dar una definición cuantitativa de la severidad de la enfermedad cerebral e identificar subgrupos de anormalidades patofisiológicas”.
En otras palabras, al comparar el EEG del paciente con una base de datos, debidamente validada, se hacen evidentes las diferencias en este estudio, y en forma automática, nos proporciona un diagnóstico basado en probabilidades matemáticas. En forma alegórica diríamos; el programa nos dice “este estudio se parece al de los pacientes con…“Déficit de Atención”, “depresión”, etc.
 Para obtener resultados confiables y significativos, se requiere una gran cantidad de datos (un banco de datos)  que tome en cuenta; la edad, género, diagnósticos, forma del EEG,  lo que se transforma en datos cuantitativos, con ello se puede hacer estadística en distribuciones de Gauss debidamente corregidas. El análisis de Neurometría es capaz de detectar anormalidades sutiles en pacientes con disfunciones cognitivas y desordenes psiquiátricos, distinguir entre diversos tipos de déficit de atención lo que indudablemente ayuda a un diagnóstico y tratamiento certeros.

El programa de Neurometría que utilizamos en Clínica del Cerebro, es bajo licencia y permiso de los laboratorios de investigación de de la escuela de medicina de New York, establecidos en 1976, que cuenta con una gran base de datos.
Esta base normativa, la mas grande del mundo, incluye individuos de edades entre 6 a 90 años, y ha sido revalidada en mas de diez países (incluyendo México) con lo que se ha demostrado que los resultados son iguales independientemente de la etnia y la cultura. En la actualidad la base neurométrica tiene más de 30 años de incluir datos y más de 20,000 estudios realizados y analizados.
       La Neurometría es útil para orientar el diagnostico en casos psiquiátricos como; depresión (uni o bipolar), esquizofrenia, trastorno obsesivo compulsivo y ansiedad entre otros. Además nos ayuda a diagnosticar diversos problemas del desarrollo en niños, como trastorno por déficit de atención, desorden negativista desafiante, problemas en el aprendizaje o retraso en el desarrollo. Nos orienta de igual manera en enfermedades como enfermedad cerebrovascular, demencia, daño cerebral por golpe, adicciones, entre muchos otros.

La Neurometría es importante por que nos permite distinguir entre cinco tipos de Déficit de Atención que requieren distintos medicamentos, nos marca una diferencia entre los problemas del comportamiento de origen psicológico y los de origen neurológico o psiquiátrico, ayuda a diagnosticar condiciones que previamente no se conocían en el paciente.  Nos da una medida objetiva de las funciones cerebrales electrofisiológicas, permite medicar mejor al paciente, nos da una vía para seguir al paciente en su evolución ¿mejora? ¿empeora? ¿debe cambiarse en tratamiento?

Por todo ello nuestros estudios son totalmente diferentes y mucho más útiles que el  “mapeo cerebral” que se realiza en la mayoría de los laboratorios.
Existen incontables artículos científicos sobre el tema, lo mas importante para validar esta técnica es que la FDA la tiene ya aprobada y registrada (Food and Drug Administration; FDA 510(k) K974748).
